Wonton Apple Hand Pies

I thought my first week being completely dairy free was going to be hard and filled with tears over an empty ice cream bowl but I was wrong. I feel great, full of energy, and I’m getting creative with new food! I don’t miss ice cream as much as I thought I would..turns out sorbet is a really nice substitute and perfect for hot summer days. Cherry Berry has a great dairy free watermelon flavor that’s really refreshing…yummy!

These wonton apple hand pies are crispy on the outside and have the same wonderful apple pie filling that you remember as a kid. It’s naturally dairy free so no substitutions were made. Hope you enjoy 🙂

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups peeled and chopped Fuji apples
  • 6 large square egg roll wrappers
  • 1 tablespoon nondairy butter, melted

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a medium nonstick pot on the stove, combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt with 1/2 cup cold water. Mix until the ingredients dissolve. Add apples and stir. Bring to medium-high heat and, stirring frequently, cook until apples have softened, about 8 to 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to low and, stirring often, cook until thick and gooey, 1 to 2 additional minutes. Transfer to a bowl and set aside to cool.

3. Set aside a small cup of water. Place egg roll wrappers on a flat surface. Dip your finger into the water, and run it along wrappers edge. Place about 1/3 cup pie filling in in each wrapper, leaving a 1/2-inch border on the sides.

4. Fold the top 1/2 of each wrapper over the filling, so that the top edge meets the bottom and the filling is encased with a border on 3 sides. Dab each border with water, and fold each inward about 1/4 inch to lightly seal. Press firmly along the borders with the prongs of a fork to seal completely.5.Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl for the topping. Brush the tops of each pocket with non dairy melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon topping mixture. Bake in the oven until the edges begin to brown, 10-13 minutes.
