DIY Chalkboard Painted Frame

I wanted an area to write my To-Do Projects in my craft room and I love the framed chalkboards. But why buy one when you can make it yourself 🙂 I had an old piece of artwork in the attic that was the perfect size. I also had a can of leftover chalkboard paint from another project so this was $0 🙂 Always a plus!

Materials Needed:
Picture frame with glass
Chalkboard paint
Paint brush
Painters tape

1. Clean the glass and frame before painting and applying tape.
2. Apply painters tape around the frame to protect.

3. Paint first coat of chalkboard paint. Allow to dry. Paint second coat. (You may need 3 coats). Take the tape off while the paint is still wet. If you remove the tape when it’s dry the paint will come off with it. Let dry.
4. Voilà! It’s complete!

  1. Thanks for the tut! I’ve always wanted a chalkboard but never felt much like buying one. Where do you get chalkboard paint? Is it a special type?
